One of the wisest things I did in 2015 was my gratitude jar. I am so happy that I stuck with this exercise because the results were nothing but incredible. These days our attention is pulled in every direction, we spend our lives figuring out our next move, our next goal, how much we don’t have. Always thinking that we are lacking something, that we never have enough, or that the grass is greener for someone else… on the other side.
The gratitude jar is a simple exercise to help remember the good things that have happened to us throughout the day. Simply write down a mini note capturing the lessons or highlights from your day. I would write down a note once or twice a day of good things that had happened throughout the day. Sometimes I forgot to participate on a day or two, but made sure that I caught up by adding a few things the following day.
Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.
-William Arthur Ward
Have you ever had a day were things were not “clicking”, not going your way, perhaps even feeling a little depressed? Who am I kidding? We all have those days. It happened a few times during 2015, but all I had to do was open the jar, grab a few pieces of paper from inside the jar and read some of the great things that have happened to me, my attitude shifted immediately!
Today January 3rd, 2016 was the BIG DAY.
What a fantastic experience! I grabbed a glass of my favorite Chardonnay, sat on my bed and read all of the blessing-notes that I wrote. Simply a remarkable couple of hours, tons of happy emotions flooding back, tears of joy and appreciation, and a feeling of bliss that I can’t put into words. I thought I had a good year but as I opened the little pieces of paper I realized the 2015 was an AWESOME year.
If you are reading this far into my blog I strongly recommend you do this for 2016, take the time to appreciate the moments of joy this year. I will be joining you, because I know that 2016 will be the best year yet!
A gratitude jar is not a craft project, it is a practice in appreciation and abundance.
I would LOVE to hear from you!
