Miami’s Sexiest Artist

Miami's Sexiest

This past Saturday, June 22nd, at the Newport Beach-side Hotel and Resort in Miami, FL, I was nominated for the category  of “Miami’s Sexiest Artist” for the 2013 Miami’s Sexiest Awards. I’m so accustomed to working on my illustrations in my studio and not being concerned with looking or feeling “sexy.” So, naturally, I was puzzled when I got the nomination and, actually, won! Becoming a fashion illustrator is typically a result of an unbridled love of fashion and glamour; I just wanted to put those images on paper as an artist. Looking at a ballroom full of beautiful people and …

I’m in love with Stephane Rolland Couture Spring/Summer 2013

One of my favorite designers is the grand Couturier Stéphane Rolland, his exquisite haute couture creations are breath-taking. His intricate, sensuous designs and his modern interpretation of the couture ideal, makes him a MASTER of couture. Rolland’s clientele ranges from Royalty to “musical royalty” like Beyonce Knowles, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. This is such a sophisticated collection of monochromatic garments in black and white, with hints of grey. His style is structured with tons of ruffles, flowers and other stunning details that could give you a fashion heart attack! Feeling inspired to illustrate some of these! Check out this master’s …

‘Kumare” -fake guru- real truth

This weekend I went to dinner with Jeff and a couple of  friends, and like we always do, we started talking about movies we’ve seen recently. One of the movies that my friend Moises mentioned and recommended we watch is “Kumare”, a fascinating and provocative social experiment- turned -documentary. Kumare’s real name is Vikram Ghandi, a 33 year old filmmaker from New Jersey that impersonates an “Enlightened Indian Guru” and builds a following in Arizona. Kumare’s followers believe him without any question and follow him like a true new-age-style guru. At the height of Mr. Gandhi’s “Yoga-lebrity”, he gathers all of …

About Carlos Marrero

ABOUT CARLOS MARRERO: Carlos Marrero knew he wanted to draw ever since he was a small boy watching the opening credits of Bewitched and I Dream of Genie with his grandmother after school. The bright colors and retro style that captured his imagination as a child have left their mark on his artwork ever since. He also draws inspiration from the glamour of the ‘40s and ‘50s: beautiful women with wasp-thin waists, dressed with the influence of the New Look of Christian Dior, with elaborate hairstyles, voluptuous gowns and chic accessories. Marrero’s illustrations appear in magazines and newspapers including Vogue, …

Here we go…

I am constantly asked to write my own blog site, but for shortage of time and being petrified about my grammar, I never have. Today, I’m venturing down a path that leaves one open to critics, expectations, and global spectators. As I begin my first blog, I find myself with a rather intriguing obstacle: just what to write about on my initial post? So I decided to start with the basics, an introduction… My name is Carlos Marrero, illustrator and entrepreneur at heart. I obviously love fashion, music & the arts, but also like to learn and share inspirational thoughts …

Drawn to Fashion

I was invited by Gallery 101 here in South Florida to have an exhibition of my work. Wondering how I could bring a Motives Cosmetics presence to the event, I came up with the idea of bringing my work to life. I partnered with Sira D’Pion, a fabulous designer from the Miami area who I had known since teaching at the Art Institute, and the results were amazing. Our event featured not only a gallery exhibition of my illustrations of D’Pion’s work, but we made it a fully interactive experience having live models showing the dresses in person – after …
